Anamorphosis Series

Anamorphosis is an artistic technique in which an image appears distorted until viewed from a particular angle. It reveals how perspective shapes what we accept as complete or correct. In Anamorphosis, artist Amy Kaluzhny uses this distortion to explore how femininity is formed, corrected, and performed
In these paintings, Kaluzhny exaggerates that stretch and strain. Figures appear elegant from afar, but the effort becomes visible as the viewer approaches. The viewer must shift their own position to see clearly - mirroring how femininity itself only “aligns” when looked at from certain accepted angles.
“I hope the audience recognizes the amount of effort it takes to make something look effortless,” Kaluzhny says.
