The matryoshka doll holds great folk heritage and cultural traditions for those who grew up in Russia and in the USSR. When it comes to the cinema or the depiction of a Russian female, she is often sexualized and made out to be the ruthless bad guy. Coming to terms with my Russian heritage during the Russo-Ukrainian conflict has been challenging. Thus this piece is a product of the contemplation of my identity during this hard time.
